Harmonic Makes Binding Offer to Acquire Thomson Video Networks

Harmonic has signed a binding offer to acquire Thomson Video Networks. a global leader in advanced video compression solutions. Under the terms of the offer which is in the form of a put option agreement, subject to the selling shareholders exercising the put option following a consultation process with TVN's employee works council in France, Harmonic would acquire all of TVN for approximately $75 million in cash plus up to $15 million in post-closing adjustments.

New York City Launches Effort to Support Young Creatives

New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito has announced a $625,000 grant to the Bronx’s Ghetto Film School to launch The Roster, a new citywide creative sector diversity initiative to advance young, diverse talent in various creative fields. The Roster will expand Ghetto Film School’s current alumni pre-professional training to bring together key industry and creative partners in New York City across film, television, media, advertising, and technology, including the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, the Independent Filmmaker Project in Brooklyn, Tribeca Film Institute in Manhattan, and others.

SMPTE Elects New Officers and Governors

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has elected its new officers and governors for the 2016-2017 term. "The elections bring the board an impressive array of industry leaders, all with a history of contributing valuable expertise and extraordinary energy to SMPTE events and standards work," said SMPTE past president Wendy Aylsworth, who served as nominating committee chair. "As we enter an exciting centennial year, the Society will benefit from our board of governors' collective experience and ongoing commitment to the Society's three pillars of education, standards, and membership."
