Managing Today’s Sound Landscape

The landscape of sound for picture is moving at a faster clip than ever before. Cinema sound and television audio – broadcast and streamed – are both racing from 5.1 surround to 7.1 to formats that range from 11.2 in broadcast for residential applications to as many as 64 individual speaker locations for object-based audio platforms like Dolby’s Atmos and Auro Technologies’ Auro-3D.

Roundabout Posts Parrot Heads

Post-production finishing for Parrott Heads, a new feature length documentary about dedicated fans of singer Jimmy Buffett, was completed recently at Roundabout Entertainment. The Burbank facility provided editorial conforming, color grading, sound mixing and DVD authoring services for the film, currently streaming on Amazon, iTunes and elsewhere.

Roland Go:Mixer Available Now

Mixing T2 Trainspotting

Acclaimed sound designer and re-recording mixer Niv Adiri has chosen Nugen Audio’s Halo Upmix to create surround 5.1 versions of the music and sound effects on a wide range of cinema projects. Adiri most recently used Halo Upmix on the current film T2 Trainspotting. With Halo Upmix, he was able to work from stereo source tracks to deliver a 5.1 mix that was true to the original sound of the music, but also sounded ideal in a range of surround listening environments.
