Gone with the Wind Sets Event Cinema Records

Classic film presentations that give audiences the rare opportunity to see cinematic favorites commercial-free on the big screen have generated $5.53 million since the beginning of the year, Fathom Events announced today. The results were led by the 80th anniversary of Gone with the Wind, which grossed $2.23 million in just six nationwide screenings across four dates, setting a record as the highest-grossing classic film for Fathom Events and the event cinema industry. The previous record was set in January by Fathom and another Warner Bros. milestone from 1939, The Wizard of Oz.

CineLatino Milwaukee Film Festival Expanding at Marcus Theatres

Marcus Theatres has announced the expansion of the CineLatino Milwaukee Film Festival, which is presented by Advocate Aurora Health. The 2019 event takes place April 10-14 and features 15 films, three locations and a variety of special activities that help raise money for the community. A portion of net proceeds will be donated to local Hispanic health and education efforts; combined, the first two years of the festival raised more than $40,000 for these initiatives.

Yamasong in Select Theatres February 15

Dark Dunes Productions and Taormina Films have partnered with filmmaker Sam Koji Hale to help realize Yamasong: March of the Hollows, a fantastical puppet vision, with a screenplay by novelist Ekaterina Sedia. The film was executive produced by Toby Froud (son of Brian and Wendy Froud) and Heather Henson (daughter of Jim Henson) and is being released February 15 in select theatres the United States, as part of an exclusive cinematic distribution partnership between Dark Dunes Productions, myCinema and Random Media.

Hendrix Documentary Gets Re-Release

Leading event cinema distributor Abramorama has partnered with Experience Hendrix and Sony Legacy Recordings to release Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church in select theaters around the world. The film opens at the ArcLight Hollywood Cinerama Dome January 31with a special Q&A with director John McDermott, legendary record producer and engineer Eddie Kramer, and Janie Hendrix, the late artist’s sister who is the CEO of Experience Hendrix.

Dogs Get Their Day in Taiwanese Premiere

More than one hundred dog owners and their pets from all over Taiwan recently converged on Songshan Cultural and Creative Park for a charity premiere of the Hollywood film, A Dog’s Way Home. The film chronicles the heart-warming adventure of Bella, a dog who embarks on an epic 400-mile journey home after she is separated from her beloved human.

Qube Cinema has published a case study highlighting the deployment of Qube Wire by Tugg, a pioneer in developing the Cinema On Demand model bridging the gap between filmmakers and audiences. According to the company, Tugg has the ability to book titles into more than 85 percent of commercial movie theatre screens in the US, from the largest circuits to independent art houses. One noteworthy aspect of the Tugg platform is that it also provides access to venues that potentially wouldn’t ordinarily play a film, such as churches, museums and libraries.

BTS World Tour, Love Yourself Releasing in ScreenX Format

The concert film BTS World Tour, Love Yourself, in Seoul, will be released in CJ 4DPlex’s multi-screen ScreenX format on January 26 for a two-week run. The film was shot at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul last August and captures the opening of the current tour. The tour has already drawn thousands of fans spanning the world from North America to Europe and Asia, and has proved to be the most sought-after tour of 2018.

Roma Has a Special Screening in Mexico

For the space of a few hours, the Presidential Heliport Garden turned into a vast open-air movie theatre where 3,000 people were able to see Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma free of charge on a screen measuring 15 metres wide by 7 metres high with Christie RGB laser projection and Dolby 7.1 sound. The screening was organized by Mexico’s Ministry of Culture.

Abramorama Releasing McCartney Tour Movie

Abramorama is partnering with MPL/Capitol/UMe to premiere Paul McCartney’s The Bruce McMouse Show in select theaters around the world on January 21. The Bruce McMouse Show is a previously never-before seen film that tells the story of how Paul McCartney and Wings came to meet the inimitable impresario Bruce McMouse. Part concert film, part animated feature, The Bruce McMouse Show features footage from Wings’ 1972 European tour from Red Rose Speedway, interspersed with animated scenes that introduce a family of mice living under the stage.
