MPSE Accepting Entries for the Verna Fields Student Award

The Motion Picture Sound Editors association is now accepting submissions for its annual Verna Fields Student Award honoring outstanding work by student sound editors. The award, which will be presented at the 69th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony on March 13, 2022, is open to students worldwide with the winner receiving a grant from MPSE’s Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund. The award named for legendary sound and picture editor Verna Fields, who won an Academy Award in 1976 for her work on Jaws.

SMPTE Announces Annual Award Recipients for 2021

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has released the names of the industry leaders and innovators who will be honored at this year's SMPTE Awards Gala. "This year's honorees have done so much, in so many ways, to help our industry evolve and grow," said Hans Hoffmann, SMPTE president. "Their achievements include remarkable technical advances from image capture to display, creative solutions for increasing representation across the industry, leadership in research and education, innovation in delivering moving images to consumers around the world, and critical work in standards development. We're proud to highlight and honor their work at this year's SMPTE virtual Awards Gala."

Dolby GFS Winning Filmmaker’s Named

Dolby Laboratories and the award-winning nonprofit Ghetto Film School today announced the winners of the Dolby Institute x Ghetto Film School Filmmaker Challenge: Finish the Script 2021. The competition challenged GFS alumni ages 18-35 to create an original short film proposal in response to a creative prompt from award-winning filmmaker Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting, Raya and the Last Dragon). This year’s winners include filmmakers representing four different projects Alejandra Araujo, Eleanor Cho, Christian Osagiede, and Antonio Salume and Amy B. Tiong.

ICTA Names the Winners of the 2021-2022 EMEA Awards

The International Cinema Technology Association today announced the 2021-2022 winners of the ICTA EMEA Awards, celebrating technological leadership, design, and innovation in the cinema exhibition sector in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Judges Chosen for FilmLight Color Awards

The winners of FilmLight’s new colorist awards will be announced at EnergaCamerImage 2021 November 13-20 in Torun, Poland. The judging and awards are being organized with the co-operation of the American Society of Cinematographers, the International Federations of Cinematographers and the Colorist Society International. Roberto Schaefer, ASC AIC-Imago, said, “For years I have believed that as cinematographers we need to acknowledge that there is more to creating the best cinematography. The finished product is the work of many talented and artistic individuals who should be recognized in a wide, cross-departmental way. I hope that this will be a beginning.”
