Searching for the Superpowers Inside By Stian Hafstad We made this short film Nemesis last fall. The film was made by a group of film students at the University of Bergen Norway as a part of a scriptwriting course. We are now on our final semester of a three-year degree. It was shot in five days on various locations in Bergen after about six weeks of planning. It was edited in about 15 days with an extra two weeks for effects and color correction. Basically we could make a movie about whatever we wanted so we decided to go with this script.

I wanted to write a script about something most people could relate too and I also feel that super powers also work great on a metaphorical level. It's like with all other dreams. Deep down inside you know that they wont really come true but even the slightest possibility that it could happen to anyone makes it worth dreaming about. In addition I found it a bit strange that there aren't more films out there about male friendship. There are many lonely people out there who could need a friend but don't know how to find one. So maybe finding an archenemy is easier.

Since we are students we didn't have much of a budget so all the actors and crew did it for free. None of them had much prior experience but did a great job anyway. We are hoping to get it shown on some festivals.

The film was shot in 1080i edited in Final Cut and After Effects. We shot it with a Sony PDW-F350 XDCam. We didn't have any other lenses or an adapter so we could only use the Canon bctv 5.7mm - 92mm 1:1.4 zoom lens that was there to begin with.

For some reason the University wanted us to film in 1080i/50 which has caused us nothing but de-interlacing pain so we'll film our next short in 25p. Our cinematographer - Ingrid - got carsick while filming the bus scenes so our editor had to operate the camera while she instructed him.

We didn't have a budget but we got some water from a local supplier for free if we agreed to take some photos of us drinking the water on the set. Our producer Tuva also managed to borrow the bus and a driver for free. Our sound setup included:

 Two Sennheiser Sk500/IK500 mics
One Sennheiser MKH 60 Lights: 6x350w Ianiro readheads

An 800w and a 650w ARRI lamp. We had a softbox some filters and a reflector to soften the look. Music:
